"How to brag--but not be a drag--online"

So as I browse the November 2013 issue of Condé Nast, I find myself daydreaming of my next vacation locale.  Granted, most of these beautiful travel spots are currently not within my financial means, I pin (via Pinterest) locations and hotels I would like to visit; which can fall into various categories like "Bucket List" or "Places to go," and yes some pins and locales are rooted in cinematography and magazine articles.  As I continue to dream and flip through the mag (well more like swipe since I have moved forward to "Newsstand" subscriptions....yes on my iPad!), I arrive on an article that begins to "school" on the do and don't on sharing ones travel experiences on social media sites.

#Shutup, is the byline and it begins with a reference from the infamous movie with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, yes, Fight Club.

"The first rule of. . . .The second rule of..."

I begin to realize that as the author is attempting to school me, they forget what publication they are writing for and why most readers browse the pages of said magazine.  We, like to dream of far off adventures and yes, most of us like to "share" our own wishes and real experiences via social media.  I'm not a  marketing guru but I understand the necessity of advertising and sharing on various social media sites are free advertisements.  "Word of mouth," a phrase that can either close a place down or improve one's business.  I tend to believe the experiences from a layman person like me, then a professional that may be getting paid to promote a place is one of THE BEST ways to market.

So I find it humorous that the author is attempting to school me on how to share my experiences.  To me, the author sounds like someone who follows too many people on various social sites and those "said friends" like to share personal food pictures or beautiful locales or envious experiences.

I don't think these rules set-forth by the author will be followed, but nice efforts... and what an awesome global-viewed avenue to try and make that change.

Good luck and shut up!

Where's the book?

I've been completely preoccupied with reading psychology books, that I thought to re-read Eat Pray Love. Since it has been turned into a movie, I thought I should read it again. I read it a few years back but I can't find it now. Where the frack did it go? Did it grow feet and just walk on outta here?

Oh...I remember, I lent it out to someone and they never returned it! WTF? When you borrow something, it is wise to return it. I mean c'mon people, really. When it's not yours, take a little extra care of it AND return it!

What to read instead, oh, I actually have The Time Traveler's Wife. I can re-read that one. Maybe I'll pick up on stuff I missed the first time around. And by the way, I lent this one out and upon return, it looks like some coffee was spilt on table the book was sitting at. Hmmmm? At least it was dried up and the damamge is minimal. It actually looks like a bit like a vintage book. Thanks for that!

If I still want to read that 'lost' book, I guess I must borrow it from the library. Since it has become a very popular book, I guess I should request it now. Why is it, that when books become movies, so many wants to read it first? People, how about just reading the book, it is probably way better then the movie. In this case, for those who have not had to opportunity to travel to Italy, India, and Indonesia, than the movie will help the imagery.

I'm not too big on romance or self-help (I actually like sci-fi and comedy), but I feel like I need a bit of warmth. I've had to much psychoanalysis and need some wholesome, 'feel-good' reading. Time Traveler's Wife it is...I begin it tonight.

Where's the moolah?

I have a little break...15 days and counting. 15 days until my brain must begin to retain loads of information. As daunting as returning to school sounded, I keep reminding myself that I'm almost done. Not really, but with time slipping by, it seems like I'm almost done.

So what to do on my days off? Well, I don't have extra funds for a trip (booo!). Used some tax return money to go to Vegas last month, and I had to also pay state taxes (another booo!). So, I'm on limited funds and need to make more money. I heard somewhere about constantly thinking about "checks in the mail." I do, but the checks are slow to come in. I sometimes think I need to get another part-time job, but it will take away from my important studies, I can't risk that. So in the meantime, I dream about that far off land of bliss. Without the funds, I am left to daydreaming, tanning in the backyard, and catching up the lost and forgotten projects. Man, I wish life was easier and less complicated sometimes!

Today is a beautiful and gorgeous day; but uh, I need some gas to get anywhere. Where's the moolah?
